CUSTOM FOOT ORTHOTICS
Many people with foot problems feel little or no pain in the feet. Instead, the pain is transferred to other areas of the body. Because the feet are the foundation for the entire body, having proper posture is the best way to support the body. If there is weakness or unstable positioning in either foot, it can contribute to posture problems throughout the entire body. The joints of the body (ankles, knees, pelvis, lower back and neck) are like train cars connected to each other. The railroad tracks are like the feet in that they bare all the weight of the body and whatever the body is carrying. When rails or feet are not in balance the joints will deteriorate over time, which commonly results in pain or in our analogy the pain is a train wreck
Also, every time a step is taken, it sends a shock wave through the entire body. If the feet are properly balanced this shock wave is absorbed. When the feet are not properly balanced the stress will cause problems commonly recognized by pain in the joints, back and neck.
The first step in analyzing the extent of unbalanced feet is to digitally scan both feet. This image will show where your weight is distributed on both the feet. This will reveal whether the area of your feet touching the foot plate is the same on both feet. If the areas are unequal then more weight is being shifted to one side. This will create unnecessary stress on the knees, spine, and hips causing pain in these areas.
To correct the problem Dr. Bretz will custom design the spinal pelvic stabilizers. The stabilizers are made to suit based on the digital scan of both feet as shown in the pictures below. These are inserted into the shoes and are flexible and comfortable. These stabilizers balance and support all three arches of the foot to help align ankles, knees and hips.
